Scarlet's unique puppetry talent gained him national prominence, on Britain’s television screens, leading innovative television network ‘Channel 4’ (the United Kingdom’s equivalent to America’s popular HBO broadcast network) was responsible for producing an in-depth documentary profile titled, ‘Distant Voices Still Lips’ this hugely successful program monitored Scarlet’s meteoric rise from nightclub and theatre performer towards becoming a television stalwart.
Upon the program’s first broadcast and having received rave reviews from many of the United Kingdom’s leading television critics, no easy task; and as a direct result of the programs immense popularity amongst the British viewing public. ‘Channel 4’ chose to rebroadcast the program in its entirety several years later. The programs documented viewing figures managing to surpass those of the movie ‘Absolute Beginners’ starring the celebrated international musician David Bowie of its top spot.
It is a widely known fact, amongst those who follow the careers of professional puppeteers around the world, that Scarlet has proven himself to be no dummy when it comes to having perfected the ancient art of puppetry/ventriloquism. It was evident from an early age that he possessed a unique talent allied with ingenious facial expressions; and ‘know-how’ to keep audiences thoroughly mesmerized.
It remains a widely documented fact that Scarlet remains the first, black, professional puppeteer in the lengthy history of British show business; a defining element he has failed to escape from. However, when his wooden ‘side-kick’ Max is questioned on the subject more often than not will follow the swift reply, “it’s a job and someone has got to do it”.
It has come as a little surprise that during the preceding years Scarlet has continued to appear as a regular feature on UK’ television screens, further enhancing his reputation as being the United Kingdom’s premier go to puppeteer with an imaginative style. Scarlet has worked closely alongside various leading television producers including the legendary Nigel Lythgoe, the current Executive Producer and creative mind behind America’s ‘Fox Channel’ flagship program American Idol. Nigel is also responsible for overseeing the production of the highly rated television show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. Television Producers and advertising companies worldwide, such as the famous brand ‘Doritos’ and ‘Blackwell Rum’ have called upon Scarlet’s expertise wherever a comedy ventriloquist is required and important deadlines are to be met- he’s truly proved himself to be a one-take specialist a puppeteering tour de force!
Scarlet has headlined shows throughout the world and the USA at venues such as New York’s famous ‘Laugh Factory’, ‘Stand-up New York’ and the ‘Ha! Ha! Comedy Cafe;’ he has also appeared in Los Angeles at their ‘Laugh Factory’, before Mr. Jamie Masada, the founder and CEO of the ‘Laugh Factory’ chain. Jamie, a leading figure in the Los Angeles area has publicly stated his appreciation for Scarlet’s talent. One would not be mistaken to have seen Scarlet perform live in places as far as a field as Dubai, Spain, France, Berlin Germany, Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia; however, after having concluded a recent 7 year performance residency in Las Vegas he spends more time in the United Kingdom.
